Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) is the state’s peak beach safety and rescue authority and is one of the largest volunteer-based community service organisations in Australia. Throughout Queensland, the organisation’s six branches and 59 Surf Life Saving Clubs now comprise of close to 36,000 dedicated individuals. From humble beginnings, when the first recorded rescue on a Queensland beach was made in 1909, SLSQ is now an efficient and vibrant organisation that boasts almost 36,000 members and growing.
